It sounds like Mr. Flake gets a lot of the points that we have been talking about. He just clarified the different between a machine gun and a AR or AK. He's also just presented data saying the AWB will do nothing to reduce gun violence and he got his data from FBI stats.

I don't know why they are even bothering, you're right it is just a dog and pony show to say they heard all opinions. Nobody is going to change their minds, they just need to put it out there and either vote or table the whole agenda.
