Heritage Christian cancels school Wednesday - WTHR |

Indianapolis - Heritage Christian is canceling classes for all of its schools Wednesday, October 7th. All athletic events will proceed as scheduled.

The private school says 15 to 20 percent of its elementary school students are sick, with the fourth grade being struck particularly hard. The school did not specify the type of illness, although in a separate letter to parents, the school says the schools are being cleaned in accordance with CDC recommendations and they give advice about the flu.

The school system tells parents to keep their child home if they have a fever of 100 degrees or higher, and that students must be kept home until they've been without a fever for 24 hours without medication.

According to the school, the class cancelation will extend the fall break and act as a precautionary measure to stop the spread of illness. It says it has a unique student population in that many siblings attend different grades.
Faculty and staff should not come to campus on Wednesay unless they are requested to be on site by their supervisor. All healthy faculty and required support staff should return Thursday. ABcare and HUB are also canceled.

About 1,500 students attend Heritage Christian.

Also, Edinburgh's kindergarten classes also closed Wednesday. They were also closed Monday and Tuesday.

Carmel is also experiencing heavy absences.

The Department of Education is reporting one other non-accredited school in Warrick County closed Tuesday. DOE gets notice when absences reach 20 percent.
