Looks like the courts have decided that an open and free internet is not a good thing. They're handing controls over to the big carriers like Comcast, Verizon, and Time Warner. What's that mean? Well if Comcast has their way, Netflix will be paying more, Amazon Prime will be paying more, Streaming Audio companies will be paying more, pretty much any content provider will be paying more...which means YOU AND I will be paying more. Another little item is now carriers can charge more for different speeds and bandwidth allocations....example...you little website for selling Beanie Babies can now be charged more for acceptable speeds, and if you don't pay to play, the carrier can and will block your site.

    Open internet is gone.

I've always maintained that the Internet carriers are only 1 step away from Total internet control. It is simple business. Why would they provide high end streaming services which directly competes and beats, their cable, satellite, and other services!

Obama and the Government wants more money. They want the Internet and the WWW to control it and to TAX it. People, Obama and Company needs to be replaced. I just hope we have the time and enough people to do get the House and the Senate Cleaned of ALL the Socialist/Communist/Nazi Politicians at the Ballot Box.

"Net neutrality", despite the name, is not a good thing, sort of like "affordable" care act, it's perversely misnamed.

The internet is such a powerful tool for watching people, I can see why eventually it will be controlled by a few who are in bed with big brother. The marketing people have already developed the software/spyware. Two weeks ago I looked for a winter weight robe and probably 25 companies have ads specializing in robes since then. Yesterday I looked up a guitar cord with a right angle plug. I'll bet 10 outfits have posted targeted ads for guitar cords. I always though of myself as pretty private, I dump my history and cookies every time I turn my computers off. One uses internet explorer and the other has google chrome, it does not seem to matter what computer I am using, the whole world knows what I buy.

Ad block keeps you from seeing the ads. That's all. Your every move is still being tracked by MAC address, the data that moves in and out of your DSL or cable router, and there is not much of a chance of you covering your tracks completely. Moving around the public internet today as an invisible user is a virtual impossibility. The only sure way, is to unplug.

not true, It can be done if you want to cover your tracks.
Some simple things that would help are: use a "disposable" usb Wi-Fi adapter (they are less than $10) on a public Internet connection like Starbucks Sure they can have the mac address of the wireless adapter, simply discard if you are worried and buy a new one then viola new mac address

also if you are so concerned: create a new windows account just for surfing - you are concerned delete account / profile from pc

Its not foolproof but it goes a very long way to protect you

Not just Obama. ALL of them need replaced. I'm thinking we need to start fresh, getting rid of a crap-ton of laws that are on the books, and get back to basic human freedoms and the bill of rights!

I'm curious as to which part of the HTTP spec involves transmission of any MAC addresses?

    This isn't difficult to solve.

Stop using IE (which barely qualifies as a browser) and stop using Chrome if you have privacy concerns, Google doesn't give a damn about your privacy.

Use Firefox, given it's open source nature any malicious code would be spotted quickly. Use Firefox with Ad Block Pro and Ghostery to ignore cookies and ads. If you're super paranoid, use NoScript.

    Oh brother.

NSA used Firefox flaws to snoop on you

Firefox is no more safer than any other browser out there.

Technology is, in itself, a manipulated flaw...there's nothing 100% secure about it. You can do thing to minimize how much big brother eyeballs what you are doing, but ultimately you will always have to be on the move.
