I have a shotgun that was engraved long ago - maybe from the factory. How would I smooth the roughness of the engraving so that it is smooth without messing up the finish? It catches when I wipe the gun down with my oil cloth. Any insight would be appreciated.

If it has any sort of heirloom quality, or is very important to you, I say leave it alone and deal with it. I would not think that you could "fix" your problem without some sort of refinish. But if ya want it refinished, there are a few reputable advertising supporters on INGO who could help you out.
