Range Report: Suppressor vs. Canteloupes
It was a day to take the kids out to the range and do a bunch of suppressed shooting. One thing I wanted to know was what a suppressor would do to the effectiveness of .22lr ammo. I had done reports before on cantaloupes and decided to stick with the same medium.
So we headed off to the range with four melons. Each would face a different .22 round suppressed and then a control hit from a .223 would be done for fun.
First was a test with a P22 suppressed and subsonic remington ammo:

That was underwhelming.
So onto the same ammo, same suppressor, bigger barrel. The girl will do the shooting:

That was better.
Now for same barrel, same suppressor, new ammo that was supersonic. The boy will do the shooting:
YouTube - M&P AR-22 High Velocity Test on Cantaloupe
Way better.
Now for a demonstration of a .223 for the kids. Why? For fun:

So, the interesting answer to the question of the suppressor is that while it remains dangerous and lethal, it is greatly diminished by slow speed and short barrel.
Something I will keep in mind if I need to dispatch a varmint quietly.
