Just got asked this. Are gunsmiths required by law to have an ffl?

If you plan on keeping a gun in your shop overnight while the owner is not present then yes, you will need an FFL.

thats what i thought, thanks. i was thinking about sending a gun off to have some work done to it but wasnt sure if gunsmiths had to have them

I left a gun at a shop for a few days for them to repair. When I went to pick it up They said that I had to fill out the paper work like I was buying it. and they called it in?
I had purchased the gun from that shop a week earlier. Has anyone else ever ran in to this?
