Just wondering what scopes you guys like when running a Carbine length rifle. For when you want something with some magnification where as the normal red dot wont get it done for what your wanting. I've have been trying different combinations like most for a while and have finally came up with a set that I absolutely love. I run my PSA frankenbuild with a 2-7x Redfield scope in a cantilever mount. I was a stickler for red dots and still have them on some of my ARs but I have to say I'm growing to love the small magnification on this setup. I was concerned with how it may hinder my close quarter ability when doing the Run-N-Gun style shooting, where we have targets at anywhere from about 10yrds to a little over 110yrds. I have to say its not much if any, my scores in the course actually went up. So what do you guys prefer?

Here is my PSA frakenbuild (affectionately named of course) ;)

I was unsure if I would like the low power magnification scope at first but decide to give the Bushnell AR optic 1-4 a try and so far really like it, It's in a pepr mount. I have been thinking about upgrading to the FFP vision just to get the illuminated reticle but not sure if I really need it.

Yea I know what you mean, it really took me a while to finally give in a run a small magnified optic. I have to say now I cant imagine going back.

Love my Vortex Viper PST 1-4x. The glass is amazing and 1-4x is plenty for what a 5.56 can do. I've easily made consistent hits out to 600 yards on a 12" steel target.

I like my Vortex PST 1-4, also love the glass on my Trijicon TR21 but when changing magnifications the eye relief changes badly, one reason why that scope was discontinued. Glass is great though

I like my Redfield 3-9x50 in Burris tactical rings. Nice and sturdy. Big objective is easy to find target in and can easily shoot with both eyes open. Most of the time I leave it on about 5 power.

I have never been able to see a red dot real clear so have always used a scope of some sort. I can shoot anything although given the choice scope is where its at for me.

Also have a couple of Bushnell Trophy XLT 3-9x40 that work well. Got them CHEAP!

Im usually not a guy that puts a scope on an AR, more of a red dot type of person, But I have had really good luck with my trijicon accupoint 1x4.... Great glass and

I would take a Trijicon Acog any day of the week based on real world experience. Saving up for one of my own some day.

Burris MTAC 1-4 is what I'm running right now on my 16". Love that reticle for 3 gun and run/gun type stuff, and the glass is surprisingly good. Only thing that would make it better is if it were FFP.

On my all purpose gun (varmints, plinking, back-up as HD, etc) I'm running a vortex diamondback HS 2-8x32 and love it so far.
    I really like low powered glass (1.5/2 - 5/6/7/8x)

I regret not buying a 1-4 or 1-6 when I bought my burris ar332. I like everything about the burris except close quarters shooting. At the 7 yardline I'm using the bottom of the ring which I liked better than a reflex sight that I tried.

I'm right there with ya Tony, I use to never give those low powered scopes a second thought and considered them a waste of money since they didn't have very much magnification. Since I've been using them that's so not the case as these scopes like (1.5/2 - 5/6/7/8x) as you mentioned are just so versatile in what they can do to from close in to even out at distance.

I have a Bushnell AR Optic 1-4 and a VISM EVO 1-4 on 2 of my AR's. The other 2 have Vortex Strikefire red dots. I really like the versatility of the 1-4. That said, I want a Primary Arms 1-6 for my rifle length AR.

My ACOG is my go to war optic & helps me make man sized hits out to 500 yards. Quick on target, illuminated day or night without batts and has a built in BDC & ranging reticle. The only time I haven't liked it was during a very close up CQB class. It does have a RDS on top and I started using it during class. That helped a lot when shooting from under barricades, etc...

<- It should be the optic in my avatar.

I run a TA44 ACOG (1.5 power) on one of my ARs, just like a red dot that doesn't need any batteries and the little half magnification is nice. One optic I probably never will get rid of

Im using a burris xtr 1-4 on my mutt gun and i really like it. Clear glass 30mm. Its very close to a red dot on 1x and at 4x it has a bdc like an acog. I like the horseshoe reticle also. I dont think you can go wrong with any nice 30mm 1-4 - 1-6 scope. I have looked at some of the cheap one and one had terrible glass.

If I were buying on the cheap end (under $500) right now, I'd be looking at the Vortex Strike Eagle (1-6x), Burris MTAC (1-4x), or Vortex PST (1-4x). Seems like you get a lot of bang for your buck in those.
