My son just reported to Fort Benning . Went to Wal-Mart for a fishing licience . There posted on the wall is a sign that if your from Indiana and 2 other states , your not allowed to purchase a gun . Anyone know why?

I was deployed to Ft. Hood Tx., and we could buy long guns, if I remember right, but not handguns... do not know why... If he is In. resident, he can hunt with a copy of his orders, and his leave papers...

indiana residents can only purchase long guns from directly bordering states, ie IL, OH, MI, and KY.

outside of that it has to be shipped back to an IN FFL for transfer.

Handguns are purchase in state only, or shipped back to IN FFL for transfer.

However there is a catch for military members stationed outside their state of residence. They can buy firearms from the state they are stationed in with a copy of their orders. I think there is more to it, just not sure what it all is.

It was years ago, but I bought several guns (long guns and handguns) at Marine Corps PXs in NC and SC. I'm pretty sure I needed some paperwork to do so, but can't remember what.
