Yeah - people want to kill the old lady... she's 75 and whacked a wild animal that was eating her flower garden. It died. And now she gets death threats and is a "criminal."

What is this country coming to.

She definitely should not be getting death threats, but she just might be a criminal...

Fawns are still nursing so it wasn't eating her flower garden {although it may have been laying on her flowers}...
Regardless it was a wild animal... and she was a very elderly woman who likely panicked at the site of it.
In years past she may have cleaned it and had a nice tender steak dinner... now she could face jail time???
It may not have been a "legal kill" but its certainly nothing to put an old lady in jail for... consider the vehicle impact kills for a moment... she should be given the meat and a cautionary ticket about killing animals with a shovel. MHO

Certainly not a legal kill. But come on... prosecuting an old woman over this?

If someone was going around seeking out fawns to crack over the head with a shovel... then yeah throw the book at them.

So I wonder how she even got caught?

Correct fawns that are nursing do not eat flowers....however the doe had to lead and leave the fawn there. I'd put money on the fact that the doe did eat flowers, at least at some point.

About two hours ago, we saw a fawn on the side of Grandstaff in Auburn! It was on the other side of the guard rail trying to get up the incline of a weedy ditch area. Nobody was beatin' the tar out of it, though...
