I have a gun that I would like to have nickel plated. Has anyone here ever had that done? I want a polished nickel finish, not a flat finish. I have had a bunch of hot rod and motorcycle parts chrome plated in the past. I didn't know if I should go to a company that strictly does firearm refinishing, or if I could just take it to my normal platers I use for my custom car and bike parts... Any suggestions?

I know this thread is a little dated, but wanted to know if you ever got your gun nickel plated? If so, post some pics of how it turned out. Also was wondering if you did it yourself, or sent it out? Also, do you know of any plating shops in Indiana that will refinish a bright nickel pistol? We have one plating company here in Lafayette, but they say they won't plate firearms.

Ive searched locally and online, but havent found any located in Indiana. A few weeks ago, I decided to buy an electroless nickel package to learn how to plate myself.....but wanted to know if you had any tips. Ive got several pawn shop specials to practice on, but I really want my pistol refinished by a professional (but in state). If you know of any shops, I would greatly appreciate it.

I hate it. Inevitably, it always flakes off or wears through.

Plus, it always looks like someone is trying to turn a 19 into a 66.

Are you talking about Smith revolvers. Model 19's are nickel plated and the 66's are stainless. :dunno:

I had a 1911 hard chrome plated and polished many years ago from a company called Armoloy in Texas. It has been a workhorse through the toughest possible and it still looks great. I think they are still in business.

 Yeah, sometimes I wake up and think mabey i'll trade my sissy-pistol for a couple glocks. This W. German P226 obviously dosn't have the class of your plastic hand grenade.
No seriously, don't take this personally.
