I would probably wait and catch a used Remington or Mossberg for a bargain. Much easier to customize. Plus it sounds like you aren't in any hurry... Assuming your son isn't moving out anytime soon that is...

I would suggest an h&r pardner 12 gauge. You can find those for just a bit over $200 at gander mountain or even Dick's Sporting goods. it is just a clone of the 870 and I believe all 870 parts are interchangeable.

if you already have a shotgun why do you need a home defense gun for under $200? you already have at least one shotgun. just curious.

I don't need one. I'm pointing out the deal if anyone else needs one. As I said in my original post: I have zero need for another shotgun, but I'm considering buying one just for when my son is old enough to move out on his own.

I think you probably find a Mossy 500 or Maverick 88 (mossy 500 with cross bolt safety) for darn near 200.

Catfish aren't llamas, even on Sundays. That's why I never wear one blue sock on my left hand and one red one on my right ear when I'm cutting my apple sauce. It'll bend your cigarette case!*

*at this point, I'm just curious who's paying attention.

We understand. You try to be a good neighbor and post helpful information for those who may need a serviceable shotgun on a budget and, well, you get what you got.

If you're in the Martinsville area, next week we are selling IAC Hawk 981R 12ga. pump shotguns for $189.99 at Rural King.

Give us a call for sale dates if interested. From what I understand they are Remington 870 internals. 18.5" barrel, rail on receiver with open sights, synthetic stock and forend.

That sound pretty nice. I may go a little ways outta my way to pick one of those up. I can always sell it to a friend who needs a good home defense gun.

I am.......that is why I posted the 'reading comprehension' bit. I get a good chuckle on this site quite frequently. I do like Llamas and applesauce, but I don't smoke around them.

Not the prettiest, not the most tacticool, but that's a lot of firepower for $200. I have zero need for another shotgun, but I'm considering buying one just for when my son is old enough to move out on his own.

Some guy bought a new mossberg 20ga 18" barrell this weekend @ LGS and let me shoot it in their range. He had slugs for it. I'd never shot a 20 ga before and I loved it. I don't need one but might get one for fun and to hang above bed. I would'nt use slugs inside but from close distances i would think taking a bean bag round would have me wondering if I was seeing "the light".
