There are wonderful men and women in the military, but some of them are just after the paycheck. Mercenary style in the military they won't have a problem with doing whatever brings them there next paycheck.

When I served, NO ONE was in it for the paycheck because the paycheck absolutely stunk.

We, as in my Operations Division on the ship, faced Constitutional questions and legal questions quite often - what SIGINT or COMINT that we could copy, record or report on was legally defined for us in our governing publications (manuals). A few overzealous officers made various requests over the years to do things that were not legally allowed (at least at the time) and we (my fellow communicators and analysts) were able to quote chapter and verse why we not legally allowed to perform those particular actions. For the few times that it was the fleet Admiral that was inquiring if we could take a particular action for collection or dissemination, I was a "little" E-4 running the mid-watch (night shift, for you civilians) telling the Admiral that we can't do X for you, but we can do Y if you wish. My chain of command NEVER failed to back me up when an intelligence request broke U.S. or International laws and was refused. NEVER.

Ryan, with your quote a couple posts above mine, you might as well be worried about a U.S. military coup to take over the U.S. Government. Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? No. Does it merit mention? IMO, no.

Soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines aren't automatons - They are trained well. Part of that training is what they are legally allowed or not allowed to do.

Without meaning this wrong, just an observation if you will. I have worked for just about all areas in or for the Government for the last 23 years. Active duty military, national guard, state gov and Feds LE. You can believe what you want but we are your neighbors, relatives, school mates etc. There will always be a few "overzealous" types (like some 22 year old officer with a ticket book) the vast majority are not out on some cynical plan to take your firearms, round you up or anything else that has been insinuate here. Now there are dumb ideas aired time to time from some big city congressional member but they never really make out side of that.
but 99% of Goverment employees want thae same for everyone and a large part of us are conservative.

Some people strike me that they almost dream/fantasize about a Red Dawn like situation with Government/military forces. The ones that spew the most about fight the GOV, etc remind me of the folks that talk all bold about "I'd tell this state trooper X,Y and Z and show him. Only to say Yes sir when REALLY pulled over and given a ticket. Sorry but you are not going to do anything but submit if it did happen.

I work as a bartender and a marine on leave came in. He even had USMC tattoed on his arm. I asked him if he was given an order to confiscate guns from americans would he comply with the order. His answer was absolutely. I asked him if he remembered his oath and he said yes and told me to remember foriegn and domestic. He thinks that the domestic terrorism is the american to be dissarmed, when in fact the domestic terrorist is the person who issued the order to dissarm americans.

See, this is the type of soldier I was trying to convince a few guys on here about.

    See THIS thread.... https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo...or_internment_resettlement_specialists-6.html

You might go back a couple pages to get the full perspective of the conversation. It's just the latest posts are the most disturbing. To me anyway.

Oh, and the best is getting your first paycheck and then finding out what you have to pay for OUT of that piddly check! :n00b:

LOL, I remember that and I joined in 1996. They give you a packing list to bring with you to basic. Once you get there it goes in a locked room. They then take you to the PX for a haircut and to buy all that stuff on the packing list again. In which all of that comes out of your first check. God bless the USA!

Ahhh, the $8 haircut that was not really a haircut.

And just before leaving boot, how loose were those pants that went into storage right before the yelling began?

Maybe one day, by the grace of God, I'll get to find out.

I don't remember the channel, but I watched a program last night before bed about Jesse James and his gang that robbed trains and such. Guess how they described him a few times in the program?

    TERRORIST.
