This is what I came up with today to hold the plates.

one is made out of 1" black pipe, the other is made out of 3/4 galvanized steel.

The only thing I need is some kind of clamp to keep them from walking to the left or right on me.

A clamp, or maybe just a set screw or two. You could really easily drill and tap that pipe and put a few screws in on either side of the chain to help with the walking.

What I wanted was the large s hooks that I could take a big set of channel locks and lock them onto the pipe, but Lowes didnt have any.

I will probably stop my the local welder and have him weld the clamps to the pipe.

The black pipe one is more sturdy and the one that I like the best.

They are easy to take apart and store.

If you have been to a demo event, you know how well the eyebolts last in the wood, lol. I even glued them last time.

Lookin good Jason. Is that the 66% in the first pic?

    Where's the bacon?
If you're going to a local welder, you might think about having them weld a piece of angle iron on the front edge of the pipe. Anything that hits the "point" of the angle will be deflected away from your stand, so the strength of the pipe isn't at issue. If it's compromised by a bolt through it, no big deal. Just a thought I've seen work. Good luck!

    Blessings,
    Bill

I am using that very concept in a dueling tree design...

For a cheap fix go to auto zone and get a couple of hose clamps. Put one on each side of the clamp and chain. That would stop it from sliding side to side.

I wouldn't have anything welded to it for the the ease of replacing parts.
I looked at those gas pipes, and the first thought was that they were awfully expensive to replace. That's why I went with treated lumber. $2.50 a 8' board.

I guess if you never hit the pipes, your ok, but that takes away bump firing.:D

I bet those rigs weigh in excess of 100 lbs each.
