Seems like there is ammo for this everywhere. Was thinking about a .22 bolt action for plinking, but gotta wonder if that is the best choice. :dunno:

I shoot entirely to much to pay that kind of money for rimfire ammo. Buy the 22lr, bide your time, and buy 50,000 rds and dont worry about it again for a long time.

Don't get your hopes up too high. Ammo that was extremely difficult to find the last time this panic started I have been seeing many places now. Take for example .380, many places have it now.

Bide your time, get what you really want and when ammo is available at a decent price start your stock pile. Then you too will be one of the prepared ones.

We have .17 in revolver and rifle but mainly for hunting. The .17 is fun at distance on a calm day. It will stretch out there a ways.

Nothing else can shoot the distance a 17hmr can at near the same cost per round. I love mine especially if shooting at objects past 150yards.

I have a CZ 452 American and 452 Varmint in 17HMR. Both are fine rifles and extremely accurate. The 17 is not nearly as cheap to shoot as my 22s but is cheaper than 223 and 308. Plus you can shoot it places that don't allow centerfire rifles.

I have a Savage in Mach2 that I turned into a Spatsy camo sniper rifle. I was going to post a pic of it, but I couldn't find out how since I am new to this board. Also does anyone know where the Indy 1500 show is held and an address for my GPS to follow

I like the idea of .17, and almost bought one, but went for .22

I love my savage MkII FVXP Its dead on with thunderbolts at 150yds

I bought it just to play with. Great fun, and cheap to shoot.

i would put in my $0.02 and say also consider the 17mach2 ...... its a round that gets very little love, of course not the speed of the 17hmr but a cool little crazy accurate rim-fire round. and i still see the ammo alot (for now) ......

I have a original Marlin 17 and love it. Heavy barrel and accurate. It can really reach out.
I don't shoot it for plinking as others have said at $13 for 50 it isn't something you just go out and waste 300 rounds like 22lr. I just take mine out and run 20 rounds through it to keep it in check.

I bought some at MC Sport in Muncie last weekend and Dunhams had a mess of it as well. Everywhere I go has it.

The Indy 1500 is the weekend of March 15th - 17th and the location is the Indiana State fairgrounds (Fall Creek Blvd & 38th Street).

I have a Winchester Model 94 in .17 HMR. It's an awesome round. I've hunted prairie dogs with it, and wow is it effective over a .22 (which I use to use as a youth). It really does reach out. I wouldn't mind finding a revolver in this round.
