I haven't been to to gun range yet, but I have fired my muzzleloader..

    in the bark yard...

    twice...

...with a .45 plastic bullet in a sabot!

no kick with the plastic bullet but plenty loud!

So, like I said I test fired a couple of plastic bullets in sabots and it worked real well, but I got to checking and those suckers are like 12 cents a piece. Then I got the bright idea to do the same thing, with paper patch. I took my half inch glue stick and wrapped 3" paper tape around it until it was .50, then cut off sections with my handy dandy garden shears.

The plastic bullets in the muzzleloader were a big hit at the bon fire last night! I found a spoon that measures right at 55 grains of powder (I figure precise measurement is not all that important when dealing with the low pressure of pushing a 30 grain plastic bullet) so I was able to just dip the powder out of the jar and dump it down the barrel with a funnel. This made loading in the dark not only possible, but easy! What a wonderful noise maker!
