I lived out in Southwest Idaho for 6 years. They have a smaller version of prarie dogs, the Richardson's Ground Squirrel. About the size of a chipmunk. They just infest thousands of acres of pasture and sagebrush. From the end of February to about mid-June, I'd go out and hunt "whistle pigs" just about everyday. Standard equipment was a good quality .22 LR with a 3-9X variable scope. I remember killing up to 100 in just over 2 hours! You'd burn through a brick of .22 in no time flat. A really good shot was up to about 125 yds. Great fun!
