My parents are not "gun people". My mother had never fired a gun before so when I told her that we were going to the range for mothers day she was less then thrilled. After church and lunch I got out the guns we would be shooting that day. A Walther P22 and Glock 23 while still at home I went over the four basic rules of gun safety, sight picture, grip, and basic operation of the weapons. She was already nervous, after some dry fire to give her a feel for the trigger break we were off to Class III sales. Upon arrival Kent (gunrunner) reminded her of something I forgot a hat to help prevent brass from going down her shirt. we bought some targets and proceeded to the firing line. I put the guns on the bench and hung a target. She said "shouldn't that be out farther?" I told her it was so she could see where her shots were hitting. I gave her the choice to go first she declined and then about jumped out of her shoes at the first shot out of the .22 so for reference I put a .40 down range. finished the Walther mag and reloaded it for her. On the line I checked her grip made sure her arms were locked out and stance was good. It took awhile to get the first ten rounds out but after a couple mags . She still refused to shoot the Glock but thats OK. On the way home she said she had fun and was not as scared anymore. I didn't make her a shooter but when my sister asked her if she had fun she said she would go shooting again.
