occasionally, after firing a round, i have a large degree of difficulty getting the bolt to open the chamber to eject the casing, it just sticks in the closed position. any idea what could be causing this?

No, but I'd like to find out, because our Mosin does the same thing -- the bolt sticks tight after every shot.

So, yes.... does anyone know how to fix this???

I have had a similar problem with my m44 After I fire a round the bolt is pretty hard to pull down. Dont know what causes it though.

Probably a combination of lacquered ammo, rough chamber, and maybe rough bolt face and extractor. (The last not too likely) The rough chamber is easily fixed though.

Mil-Surp ammo for this caliber is sometimes VERY hot. Not like the Russkies really cared about consistant ammo when beating back Hitler's Legions after all. Just had to go Boom....

If you have access to a chronograph, you will be amazed at the velocity differences from round to round.

Have fun. At least you won't get hurt shooting the rifle and ammo.....

Couldn't agree more....clean the chamber! You won't believe the difference!

Also, if you can, shoot the polymer coated or better yet brass or copper washed rounds rather than the lacquered, so you can reduce build up in the future.
