Took my new M&P .45 out to the range today for the time. I also took my Glock 23 (with 3 dot night sights) for comparison.

    here are my first impressions:

    1) Grip: i like the glock grip better. It just seems to fit my hand a bit better, even after i tried the different backstraps on the M&P.

    2) Trigger: The Glock trigger felt a bit longer to me. But the M&P's trigger seemed a bit heavier and a lot grittier. Overall I think I like the Glock trigger better than the stock M&P. But nothing beats a 1911. ;)

    3) Capacity: Obviously apples to oranges. Different calibers and different sizes. The Glock is 13 +1. M&P is 10+1.

    4) Recoil: Again, apples to oranges. As I expected, the .40 is much snappier than the .45acp.

    5) Accuracy: I was shooting from a standing position at 25 yards, farther than I normally practice, especially with a brand new gun. I am able (with a little luck lol) to get the Glock in 2nd ring from the center. Not a lot of grouping, but at 25 yards I am content. At 10 yards I can put every round in the head of a silhouette. When I fired the first mag the M&P was a little low, but all 10 rounds were on the paper. On the second mag I was just outside the bullseye, with a couple of holes touching.

    6) Reliability: I put about 100 rounds through the M&P today. I tried limp wristing and rapid fire; all without incident. I have put a few hundred rounds through my Glock without issue. But this afternoon, the Glock jammed for the first time.:n00b: And I was not limp-wristing; this was on the second mag. I know that all machines can fail, but I was surprised as my carry weapon was spotless, lubricated properly and had previously been flawless with all types of ammo.

The Bottom Line: Despite my preference for the Glock grip and trigger, I actually liked shooting the M&P a bit more. This could be because the .45 round and the M&P's larger size makes it more manageable/accurate, but I think I may have a new carry weapon. I am very interested in trying the Apex mod to better the trigger.

    Thanks for reading.

The Apex upgrade will clean that trigger right up. Self install for under $100, under $40 if you just try the sear first. I've done it to all of mine and it makes a big difference.

I noticed my M&P trigger got better as more rounds went through it. I never fired one with the upgrades so I guess I don't know what I'm missing.

    Nice review thanks.

Just about any gun's trigger will smooth out some after a few hundred rounds or dry fires.

If you want to a speed up the process, take a dremel with a soft polishing wheel and some Flitz to the trigger parts that rub.

The Apex sear is amazing. Great upgrade.

This :yesway: I had a Glock and thought the trigger pull on the M&P was a little gritty too. I installed the Apex kit and my M&P has been good to ever since. It's pretty easy to install but I'd suggest watching the videos on YouTube or Apex's website a couple times before you get started.

I like this thread cuz i'm interested in getting eather a Glock or an M&P.

I'd like to see a side by side with both being the same caliber

Kinda leaning toward the S&W but haven't written off the Glock yet

I have a Glock 17 9mm and a M&P .40 and there is no noticable difference in recoil. It really surprised me that you would say, "as expected the .40 is much snappier than the .45acp." I would have never expected that to be the case, since the .45 is the larger caliber. But then, I am a newbie! I enjoyed the post.

I've got a Glock 27 and have rented an M&P .45. The M&P was a pretty decent shooter. I don't know that I'd go out and buy 1, at least for awhile, because I've got a .45 and it is a range only gun. The M&P, being a rental, was broken in. I didn't seem to notice any trigger issues(I do like my Sistema 1927 trigger better though). Overall it left a good impression.

Thanks for the review. I've been toying around with the idea of getting an M&P, but I just got my Beretta Storm to the range this week. I like! I really like all of my Glocks too, but will probably sell at least 3 of them to re-invest in other goodies.

    i should have clarified. i expected the .40 would be snappier than the .45 because I have a few government-sized 1911s. ;)

I recently picked up a .40 (Glock 27) and also found it to be quite a bit snappier than my .45's. Now I must say that my experience has not been apples to apples either because my .45's are a Glock 30 and a 21. Obviously the 27 is quite a bit smaller, but the .40 was noticeably snappier with full power loads.

I think it's a different kind of recoil. To me, the .40 has more muzzle flip, where the .45 is more like a push backwards. If that makes any sense. Just my opinion.
