    Rent a stump grinder for the local tool rental company. Depending on the size of the stump it shouldn't take more than 30min - 1 hour and take it down as far as possible then cover with dirt. Using the right tools from the beginning and will save you a ton of hassle.

    Get a really big lathe, big enough to chuck the planet in (probably want a 4 jaw chuck), then once you've centered it, spin it up to about 500 rpm and bring a left hand finishing blade in from the end and face it. You're not boring a gun barrel here, so precision isn't that important. Might want to take a few passes at that depth. Once you're done, hurry up and put the planet back before anyone notices.

    Another idea, blow torch the spot out you want. Rest isn't likely to just burst into flames and hose it of when finished.

    Be wary of steam depending on how fresh the cut is if you do this.
