I picked up a S&W 642 and would like to replace the factory sights with an XS Big Dot. The trouble is that the 642’s front sight is integral with the barrel.

Can anyone recommend a company they have had first hand experience with that can do this mod and a ballpark cost? Pics would be great.

    Thanks.

Is it me or does it seem counter-intuitive to spend that kind of money to get a big dot front sight on a weapon that you already have Crimson Trace Grips on? (see photo above)

From the way I see it this person has about $ 750+ into this weapon which is a whole lot of $$$ for a firearm with effective range of 10-15 yards max...

Don't get me wrong I have, and love, my 642 but for the cost of adding the CT Grips and new big dot, you can purchase another gun with better sights (i.e. LCP, PA3T or P-11, etc)

With that being said, if you were planning to do one or the other... I'd lean towards the CT Grips as I feel one would have faster target acquisition with them over the Big Dots..
