By context, you're saying that if the buyer is in-State, you can ship to him without an FFL? Not FTF, but shipping?

Yes if out of state or not picked up in person. Cannot ship without an FFL on the receiving end. you don't have to ship thru an FFL unless the receiving FFL will not except shipment from private parties. It is lots less complicated than it seems.

actually, I think it has been found that in Indiana you can ship long guns via mail to an individual in Indiana, ie Indiana resident to Indiana resident sale. I have no clue where to find the law, but Im sure someone does.

I think tat would be to gray of an area for me. Someone from say batesville or southeast, Then in shipping the gun might cross into say Cincinnati and back into state. Also how could you prove it was a competent person with no mental issues.

I think it is face to face.

Q: May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier? A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.

+1 rep! I learned something new! Should be easy to do daily when you're as dumb as me, but it still seems to be a challenge. :):;)

There are two different options -- a long gun can be shipped between private individuals within the state of indiana. A handgun cannot be shipped to anyone except an FFL dealer - in state or not - a longgun can be shipped by USPS / UPS / FEDEX, ETC.... a handgun must be shipped via UPS / FEDEX or common carrier - UNLESS THE HANDGUN IS BEING SHIPPED BETWEEN FFL DEALERS -- FFL dealers can legally ship handguns via USPS. Hope this helps rather than adds to the confusion!!
