We went out to the dunes today and walked around for a while. There was no one at the entrance, so we didn't have to pay to get in:rockwoot:

    On to the pics.

    The shelf ice warning-

Pictures from the beach looking out towards the water-

In this pic, basically from where the picture was taken out there is water under the surface.

There is actually snow under the sand for about 10 feet from where the ice and snow starts close to the shore.

It was a great way to spend a couple hours. If you're in the area I definitely recommend going and checking it out.:yesway:

Very cool! Great pics, thanks for sharing :yesway:

I have been by there a few times (actually all the way to the front gate once due to a couple other INGOers poor navigational skills!:D), but have never actually gone there. I will have to put that on my list of things to do.

Definitely try to get there before the ice melts!

If you come once it warms up consider staying at the campground. That's always fun, too.

    Is that guy nuts!??!?!?!

Shelf ice is a death trap! It's hollow and unstable. You fall through a weak spot and then you have several feet of ice above you. Its far more dangerous than standing on a flat sheet of ice. Rescue odds are slim.

Yea, he was walking out there for about 45 minutes. I was keeping an eye on him, but I don't know what I could do if he did fall through except call rescue. When we were leaving another guy pulled up and walked up there. I guess they missed the signs at the entrance the beach that state "unsafe" and "death".:n00b:

"Unsafe and death" are just buzz words the joy kills are using these days. Like getting trapped under ice would ever harm anyone...bunch of sissies I tell ya.
