I'm purchasing a new .308 rifle and am looking to buy a quality scope. I'm looking for higher magnification, with quality glass. I've done some research but still don't fully trust what I've seen. For under $500, (or less) what are some of your favorite rifle scopes?

    Leupold, Nikon, Bushnell, others??

What are are some of the more important features?

I've had burris scopes on my competition guns for over 15years, the adjustments are still exact, I've got documentation in my shooting notes. I just don't trust the vortex brand yet.

Nobody on the line that shoots around me that shoots enough to matter is using vortex

That's odd. I dont know what your shooting that vortex is not dominating with the possible exception being benchrest/f-class and that's because they just threw their hat in that ring last year.

43 out of the top 50 shooters at the world championship prs shoot ran vortex.

3 gun? Jerry does pretty well, as do his wife, and daughter. In fact, at the world 3 gun championship in Russia a few months ago, Jerry and family got gold in something like 7 out of 9 class's. All running Vortex.

If your wanting high mag, under 500, I still have some refurbished pay 6-24 SFP for 450ish.
