According to the Chicago Tribune, Obama supports federal legislation to ban the Right to Carry for everyone except police officers. Could he get this done?

I think it is unlikely that such a law would pass judicial review.

We live in a Republic of States, with states that retain rights over specific areas, as reserved by our US Constitution. I think it is very improbable that national anti-carry law could pass. If it did pass, I think it is improbable that it would be upheld by the court.

HOWEVER, there is no reason to think that he couldn't get restrictions on INTERSTATE carry and transport of weapons and ammunition, and there is no reason to think that that would fail under judicial review.

If he had a Dem majority, he could get it passed and while we worked to overturn it, it would be law. Our job is to make sure he never has the opportunity.

Whether or not he can actually get it done, he will do everything in his power to do so.

In the unlikely event that national carry license reciprocity ever passes both house of Congresses during his term(s), the veto is certain.

Expect plenty of executive orders as well.

To expand on this a little bit, is overall firearm ownership on the decline? Is that part of the danger that looms for our rights -- declining interest in firearms?

I think I've read a couple of times that firearm sales are down. With less people shooting, couldn' that lead to the gradual erosion of our rights?

I'll have to see if I can find any statistics on gun ownership. Last time I heard most manufacturers of AR type rifles are behind in thier stock of rifles.

Seems like over this way more are buying them.

    Obama will be Carter II>

For those of you not old enough to remember, under Carter, admin rules were proposed that would prevent the transport of firearms and ammunition on federal highways.

Obama will do everything he can to attack your right to keep and carry firearms. It is beyond rational thought for Barack, it is more like a compulsion or religious duty to him to disarm you. As if you are armed, you are harder to control.

Barack hates, hates, your guns. He knows criminals will always possess them but criminals are outside the boundaries of the state, outlaws. He is worried about you possessing firearms as you may stand up to his plans for you, i.e. he wants control over every single aspect of your life--what you eat, your medications, what you drive, where you live, what you think and believe, complete and absolute control over you in order to make the New Transnationalist Man.

We live in a Republic of States, with states that retain rights over specific areas, as reserved by our US Constitution. I think it is very improbable that national anti-carry law could pass. If it did pass, I think it is improbable that it would be upheld by the court.

Hmmm, don't know about that. Lopez was a great victory but it died in its crib in '95. Unfortunately the Interstate Commerce Clause is the big hammer of unlimited government and that which a Democratic Congress directed by President Obama will cite to pass such legislation.

Last time I heard most manufacturers of AR type rifles are behind in thier stock of rifles.

At the NRA Meeting in Louisville I was told by DPMS that they are 18,000 complete rifles back ordered and 14,000 lower receivers behind in production. They are running 6 days a week, with 1K complete rifles being made per week.

And this was just one company! Heck, everyone is making ARs now, even my mother. Buy them cheap, stack them deep. It could get very rough for us in the next few years, boys.

I know Rock River is behind, when I ordered they told me 8 weeks. I'm coming on the 8th week and it should be here this week...I'm thinking about ordering another since I'll have it paid off in no time given the time frame.

I am just itching to see how outspoken about firearms he will be when he gets the nomination.

He won't say a word when nominated.

The fact that Obama has to lie shows our power. Obama will not say anything until January 21, 2009 and then it will be one attack on us after another.

Other than being a socialist-statist zealot, one of the big dangers this man poses is he is an incredibly talented liar, on a par with Bill Clinton. Sure, most politicians lie at times, and almost all spin the truth in their favor, but this guy is well beyond that. He knows exactly which buttons to push and he knows exactly how to sell his product, and he's succeeding.

I really hope that anyone who is planning to vote for someone other than John McCain in November, regardless of the reason, will reflect upon their choice and reconsider. I understand that picking the lesser of evils isn't good, and I understand voting for one's principles, and I understand sending a message. Unfortunately, we don't have the luxury of making those statements this time without paying too heavy a penalty.

    +1 to Rhino!
Divided we fall. McCain is not my choice either but he is better than the other front runners. Just like Ross Perrot pulled enough votes to let Clinton win, the second tier conservatives such as Bob Barr and Ron Paul could do the same. I really don't care for many of McCain's views but he's the only non-socialist who has a chance.

I wouldn't call Ron Paul a conservatives, nor probably Bob Barr either. They are libertarians and we need a lot more people like them.

    Right you are, Rhino.
I was thinking as if all who were not liberal were conservative which is incorrect. I too like a lot of the libertarian platform. I'm sort of a Neal Bortz libertarian.

Government is there to do what you cannot do for yourself, i.e. build roads, national defense. Providing for yourself and your family is not a government responsibility. (paraphrased for Jessie Ventura as governor of MN)

You must all keep in mind the president has no power to MAKE law. Only the Congress can do this. He can only sign it or veto it. And if he Vetos it, it can be overturned in Congress. He may also PROPOSE legislation, but our congressmen can tell him to **** off. So may the Supreme Court. But as was stated before, if it goes to Court, it is still law until it's overturned. Which there is a such thing as a temporary "restraining order" on laws. Please someone correct me on the technical term... So it can be stopped in more than one way.

I honestly think everyone is way too caught up into PRESIDENTIAL races instead of the OTHERS that REALLY matter too. Congressmen hold alot of power over our rights too. More so than the President. Don't forget that.
