I called the sheriffs dept and the lady told me I had to go to the state police office in lowell to apply. State police looked at me like I was crazy. I remember having to go to he sheriffs dept with a few different money orders. Did something change or was that lady crazy?

    ????? state??

If you live within city limits, you go to your local PD.

If you live outside city limits you go to the Sheriffs Office.

That's how I understand It. I had to go to the Sheriffs office in Clinton County when I got mine.

You walk in and ask "Who can I talk to about a License to Carry a Handgun?"
IF they say "They are not here right now, Can I help you."
RUN! Run away! As fast as you can.

A police station is not different than any other office.
There is usually one person that really knows how to do a task.
Usually it's the clerk at the desk.
Once you get the person 'in the know' it will be smooth sailing.

NEVER trust a deputy or sheriff.
That's kind of akin to asking the President of GM trying to fix the carburetor on your truck.
It just ain't gonna turn out good.

And when you do the online portion, spend the extra 10.95 and do the L1 fingerprinting. I did it and it cut the time to get my card down to 4 business days. I applied and did the money orders and everything on a thurs and received my card the following tues. that was going thru porter county sheriffs too. The lady at the first desk right when you walk in knows what she is doing and had me done and out of there in 10 min after I did the L1 fingerprinting. Hope that helps.
