next, tape the blade. tape it well.

size up the kydex. 3x the size of the width of the blade. i do spinefold sheaths. i like them better, less material, and less things to fail.

drill holes, and clean them up.

clean up the edges. go back with 400 grit paper and knock off the edges and lips. smoooooth it out.

    08302010092.jpg

    check fit.

Ohhh cubby, what ur doing is just not right. Everytime I see a new post from you 9 times out of 10 it's of one of these awesome blades, and gets me all excited about getting mine from you. I love these posts being able to see your blades progress from a chunk of steel to pure greatness. In the mean time I'll be here patiently waiting and enjoying the eye-candy. Rep to u incoming.

PS. I'd love to see more pics

Have I mentioned how patiently I've been waiting since I saw the last pictures? Jclark's knife turned out really well! Good work cubby!

I'm just curious, but how did you keep the mouth of the sheath open? It looks to me like the knife was pretty well encased in the sheath after the forming. Perhaps the pictures just didn't show the mouth well.

Good looking knife, Cubby. I'd love to have a tanto about that size and build. I might have to hit you up sometime for one.

after forming the sheath, you trim the entire sheath down to size. when you do this, you can leave the throat of the sheath the correct size. some knives require more work at the throat. for example, airborne pfc sent me a knife with a hilt and guard. that took alot of time, tweeking the throat with a heat gun. rolling this out, tucking this in, smoothing this out... its all realative to the design of the knife. most of the time, you just cut it, and do a TINY tweek with the heat gun... this allows you to get the "SNAP!" of the knife into the sheath and still have it release easily from the sheath.

It's here!! I christened it in by cutting down some saplings in the woods.

It's really light for it's size.
I'll beat the snot out of it and post a review!!

That's very nice work, but most importantly, thank you for taking your time to document and share the process.
