Hey INGO community, I have a delima I'm sure there is a good answer to. I have a Yugo Ak-47 M70AB2 by Century and I want to convert the handguards (the guy I bought it from stained them black), put a fixed stock in place of the underfolder (that metal bar is not too forgiving), and also see about a trigger replacement/upgrade (as with the stock, not too forgiving). I am a fan of the original wood-grain look but would not be opposed to a synthetic conversion. I am not very familiar with brands or manufacturers when it comes to these items so any thoughts, ideas, and/or comments would be much appreciated. Thanks!

    First, welcome to the group!

    :welcome:

Hate to inform you that to replace the underfolding stock with a fixed one would require removing the rivets holding the rear receiver cover, and installing a rear trunion set up for the fixed stock. You would then have to figure a way to cover the underfolder mechanism holes.

Check Gunbroker if you want original wood handguards. Yugo guards are hard to come by but are available. Sometimes some of the larger internet store have them, like K-var or Centerfire Systems.

For a replacement trigger, the Tapco G2 is a good set, or one from Redstar which I believe can be purchased through Blackjack Buffers.

Sounds like you basically want a different AK.

I would advise selling and getting into a more standard version of the AK. The Yugo and underfolder part keeps you kind of limited.

Thanks for the info guys! Wow, I didn't realize the stock would be that involved. I guess it would be fine keeping it and just replacing the handguards and trigger. That butt plate isn't too bad but the trigger sure as hell is. Hard to get through even one 30 rnder without thinking my finger is going to fall off. I guess you may be right, sporter, a new ak would fix all my issues. However, I think I will try replacing what I can and see how things go. And yes, indykid, I have definitely been having a rough time finding anything yugo, aside from a whole new gun. I'll look into what you suggested. Thanks!

You might look at Samson cheek rests as well. They make the underfolder less punishing.

Since lickx has elected to start his INGO career by resurrecting a 3+ year-old thread, might as well update it.

Command Arms now has a collapsible stock adapter out for underfolder-cut stamped receiver AKs.

i think samson makes a rubber but pad as well as the cheek rest. your rifle should allready have the tapco g2 trigger installed. if not try that one. its a great trigger. they have never given me trouble
