Okay so I really just want to buy a bolt gun that will shoot 5.56/223. Most of the ones I find and actually like are just 223. CZ has a black synthetic one that is really looking best right now followed by Ruger American and Mossburg.

Just looking to shoot 100 to 200 yard, nothing crazy. Threaded barrel is about the only deal breaker. I already have ammo for this caliber so given current events I really do not want to by another caliber and start from scratch with ammo. Not really concerned about price as long as it stays around a grand give or take but I am flexible there. Ruger had a RPR in 5.56 but they no longer make it. I would have went for that. Anyhow if I am missing anything or if anything is coming out in 21 that I don't know about. Thanks .

For the money check out TC Compass in 556. Get a 2-7 or 4-12 vortex from AAoptics and you are set.

I'd second the compass based on my experience with one chambered in 6.5 creedmoor. Shoots lights out at 200 yards (as far as I've shot it). For a sub $300 rifle, or at least use to be, hard to beat for the money

The twist rate is the big let down on most 5.56 bolt guns. Most are 1:9, if I'm running a bolt gun I'd want to be running heavy bullets.
1:9 in my experience loves the lighter bullets 55gr and under some shot 62 and 75gr fine which doesn't make sense to me.

The weight and 5+1 capacity sounds like a good varmint killer.

1:9 works just fine for 75/77gr HPBT bullets common for ARs...should be no issues with stability even at sea level and 0F temps.

I shot 75gr Amax out of a factory Savage 1:9 223 barrel with a stability factor of 1.00 and got 1.5” 10-shot groups at 200 yards.

That said, I want 1:7 or at least 1:8 in a bolt action for 80gr SMK, 75/80gr ELD, etc...and a magazine that allows for 2.50” or longer COALs.

Just got done with gun broker looks like they only have 3 Mossberg and wow... money for a used one.. LOL
I count 8... Five of those are under $600 right now. And don't beat yourself up thinking about what they cost a year ago...

If you do join in the fun, don't bid until the last 2 mins.

Also check out how active the bidding has been. Lots of people get in early and throw some bids and then disappear.

My Stevens 200 is great at 200 yards. It's not labeled .556 chamber but mines measures out slightly longer than .556. They usually go for around $200. You could have it threaded and reamed to 223 wylde if needed, with decent glass and be well under $1000.

If you are willing to travel i can check my local gun shops see what they have in stock and prices for you. But its a 3 hour drive from NWI depending on your location. I'm sure a few would ship to a local ffl for you if need be.

That's how I do it. I know my max price (with taxes, shipping, and transfer if necessary) and throw that bid in with around 30 seconds to go
Gunbroker has their 15 minute rule, so really bidding any time under 15 minutes is going to reset the "clock" to 15 minutes anyhow, whether you bid at 14 minutes to go or 30 seconds to go.
