Ok, so I'm pretty sure I want to join the AR club. I currently have a S&W MP-15 .22 but I want to experience what the AR platform has to offer. There are two routes I can go here: The first being just putting up the cash for an entry level AR like the Smith and Wesson or DPMS. The second being building my own AR preferably with a RRA lower and some kind of M4 upper. The rifle will be mostly a range toy with iron sights and some kind of optic later down the line.

IMHO, by the first, build the second. The M&P's are good rifles, and won't break the bank.

I'd buy the entry-level $600-$700 AR and after becoming familiar (and comfortable, you never know, you could hate it!) with the platform and all the components, work on ordering parts to build your own, mate.

Talk to Mark, at Bradis, shooter 521 here, and he will help YOU... My friend Sean, bought his first AR, there a Spikes Tactical, and spent around $800.00 I am a BIG fan of S&W, also...
