As a member of the first military unit (from another state) to reach New Orleans after Katrina, I can say without hesitation that WE did not seize any weapons from residents. We had HEARD that the NOPD was confiscating weapons, but never saw it. I know that it was going on, but we were too busy saving lives to do that. All of this is bringing memories back of a survey that was given to some USMC troops in the early 90's, by a officer working on his masters thesis (please take the time): COMBAT ARMS SURVEY: 29 Palms Survey

You also have to understand what makes an order valid. That oath we took was to defend the constitution, and we defend it by upholding it. As a senior NCO, I have to train soldiers of not only legal ramifications of orders, but also morals and ethics. Basically, if they find themselves in a situation that their basic principals were violated, it is probably wrong. If more soldiers were taught these, we probably would not have had Abu Ghraib, or SF Psyops burning taliban bodies "to instill fear".

    :+1: Excellent post. Reps added.

I thank God every day for many things. I am grateful I wasn't a resident of New Orleans during this tragedy. If Leo,National Guard, regular military or any other comes armed to the front door of my home, and attempts forcible entry to violate my second amendment rights under any SHTF situation. There will be deaths involved, I have no illusions that I would be counted among those deaths. But I also guarantee I would not be counted alone.

I hate to say this, but I think we've already lost. I think that moment came long before this election, it's just that now everyone is starting to notice. Every time we abandoned principle for pragmatism, we lost a little. Every time we abandoned a larger principle because a pet issue of ours was advanced, we lost a little. When we passed laws about which drugs were government approved (alcohol) and which were not (pot, cocaine) we lost a little. When we passed labor laws that forgot that their would be no jobs unless some guy one day created a company that never existed before, and treated the people he hired as if they had the same stake in the company as he, we lost. When we let prosecutors run wild because they didn't mess with us law-abiding folks, only with the scumbags, we lost. Guess what? To Obama and his like, WE'RE the scumbags now. We've already lost.

Too late to change the system from within, too early to shoot the bastards.

Sad but true ! 1934,1968,1986,1994 little at a time divide conquer

those are not NG soldiers!! take notice of their uniforms, and the weapons they are using!! I've been in the military for years, National Guard, Active and reserves.
I assure you any U.S. Soldier has uniform requirements, and I have only seen SF or the No Name guys with those type weapons.
Rumor has it Blackwater was called in to do the door to door?

To the best of my knowledge it was only NOPD and La. LEO that was taking peoples weapons. The military units for the most part where doing security, and humanitarian work.

Not only were the NOPD violating the 2nd, but clearly the 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments as well. If Guard from other states were looting as well you can include the 9th and 10th amendments as well.

US government at all levels is corrupt. Elections will not fix it.

The fear of the people is the only thing that holds governments in check. Like National-Socialist Germany, our government apparently does not have that fear, at least in the middle class neighborhoods or at the doorsteps of law abiding citizens. They only fear those who don't abide the laws. They fear those with a taste for blood, or at least a tolerance for it.

They don't believe the law-abiding citizen will use their weapon against "the Law" as those many in our government see themselves. It is up to armed citizen to be minute men in defense of not only his own family and property, but of his neighbor's too. As Ben Franklin said: "We must all hang together, or we shall surely hang apart".

I wonder, what would have happened if the people of New Orleans just said "NO" in a unified stand against the gun grabbers? Would the grabbers just backed off, or would we still be talking about the battle of New Orleans?
