Just like every other politician, trying to stay relevant and hang onto power as long as he can. There should be an age limit for Congress. You can be elected until you turn 65 and then only serve that term and retire with Soc Sec/Congressional pension. No more Strom Thurmond's or Robert Byrd's!!!

I was thinking term limits, personally. Great age can leave one with great wisdom in the event that you can't be perpetually elected until 5 months post-death.
