I am new to guns so far I only have pistols, but I am ready to buy a fun .22LR. I want something fun, preferably a semi auto what's some good fun options?

Ruger 10/22 - Excellent, feeds all ammo, many accessories
Sig 522 - Excellent, mine feeds all ammo, Mimics Sig 556
S&W MP 15/22 - Excellent but mag has opening to allow dirt. Mimics AR15

Lots of good bolts but those are my top 3 semi-autos

I have a Remington 597 and love that gun. It's crazy accurate and shoots so darn fast. That being said, I was planning on buying a 10/22 but found the Remington for $180 bucks, so I couldn't turn it down. 10/22 has some pretty crazy aftermarket stocks, triggers, magazines, barrels, etc. So you might spend a few more bucks (with the 10/22), but there's a lot of stuff you can do with it if you eventually get bored with the basics. Either way, you're going to have a blast with a rimfire.

Own a 10/22 and the S&W M&P 15/22. Both are great and super fun, but the 10/22 has to win. It has a permanent spot in the pantheon of America's greatest guns.

Marlin 795. Cheap and very accurate. Quickly becoming the "go to" Liberty Training Rifle for Appleseed. For a little less than a 10/22 you can get one already completely kitted out for Appleseed with a GI sling and swivels, an extra magazine and Tech Sight aperture irons.

As others have said a 10 22 is hard to beat. An older Remington Speedmaster 552 is a great rifle also. They shoot short, long, and long rifle, which is a plus.

Depends on what you are looking for.

Just want something to go shoot? Marlin Model 60. Cheap reliable, no mags to buy, relaxing to load, and usually very accurate out of the box.

Something to upgrade and tinker with? 10/22. You can make these rifles however you want provided you have the money. If you like to tune, customize and modify this is the one for you.

AR15 trainer or analog? S&W M&P 15-22. unlike many other 22 replicas these have proven to be as reliable and robust as the major players in 22 market.
