A 52-year-old Gary man was shot and killed there late Monday, marking the twelfth homicide in the city in three weeks.
Joseph King Jr. of the 300 block of Pierce Street was pronounced dead at his home at midnight, according to a spokesman for the Lake County coroner's office. The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds to the body suffered in an apparent homicide, the spokesman said.
Gary police were not immediately available for comment early Tuesday.
King's death comes on the heels of a violent weekend in which the grandmother and aunt of a Gary patrolman were slain and another man was found stabbed to death in his home.
Lillie L. Miller, 79, was found strangled to death Friday night in her home in the 700 block of Tyler Street. Her daughter, Donessa Miller, 52, was taken to the Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus in Gary where she later died. Officials said Lillie Miller was the grandmother of Gary Police Patrolman Damon Bradshaw and Donessa Miller was his aunt.
Tommie Hardy, 50, of the 1400 block of W. 15th Avenue was found stabbed to death in his home Saturday night. His death was ruled a homicide.
