Hey everyone, I've got another fun dilemma. I took the decades old Weaver K4 off my pre '64 30-06 because it was getting blurry and was only 4 powere in the first place. Got a new Redfield Accurange 3-9x40. Its great, can't wait to shoot it. Problem is, its mounted right down on the the action, which is good, but I can see that massive hood over the front sight throught the scope. Easy fix: taller rings or see through rings to raise the scope. However, this rifle hasn't had a rear sight on it in probably 50 years, and it probably won't get one. So the front sight is just an obstruction. What do y'all think about just taking it off? Opinions? Should I just go with taller rings or call a gunsmith and knock the thing off? Thanks in advance.

So it looks like I can knock the hood off with a punch. Then, if need be I can knock out the sight and unscrew the mount. Then I just need a flush fit screw and I'll be back in business. Anyone concur, disagree or just want me to go away?
