I just purchased my first pistol, a Ruger SR9 (all black)

Anything I should know about it?

Types of Amo that work best, tend to jam, etc? Reloads?

Although I probably won't carry until I get good and comfortable with the firearm, favorite holster for cc?

Insights from long time Ruger owners?

It's a Ruger you're probably looking at a vary reliable gun. From what I've seen its much slimmer and lighter then the P series. I'm a fan of the crossbreed holsters but there are many different makers that will work very well. I don't know for sure but I haven't heard anything about being picky with ammo. Congrats on a good gun!

I have an SR9 and have found the Fobus paddle holster to be very comfortable. They may not list one as availabel for the SR9 but the HK-1 fits perfectly. I have found the gun to be reliable and shot mostly Winchester FMJ ammo with it.

I've had one for a couple of months. Be aware that you "could" have
chambering issues the first couple of hundred rounds because the gun is really tight from the factory.

Having said that, it's a beautiful, functional, and accurate pistol which is a joy to shoot. I've not had one problem with mine.

Mine was really dirty from the factory so you may want to clean it up before you take it out.

There are alot of good types of ammo out there, your best bet is to go to the range and try some. See what you like best and what your new toy likes best. Speer Hollow points are what I use in mine or federal Hydroshocks

For practice, any FMJ will do. Winchester USA "whitebox" from Wal-Mart is a decent deal.

For defensive use try some of the following to see what your gun likes best:

    Barnes XPB 115gr HP (35515) loaded by Cor-Bon (DPX09115)
Winchester Partition Gold 124gr JHP (RA91P)
    Winchester Ranger-T 124 gr +P JHP (RA9124TP)
    Winchester Ranger-T 127gr JHP +P+ (RA9TA)
    Winchester Ranger-T 147gr JHP (RA9T)
    Winchester Bonded 147gr JHP (RA9B/Q4364)
    Speer Gold Dot 124gr JHP +P (53617)
Speer Gold Dot 147gr JHP (53619)
Remington Golden Saber 147gr JHP (GS9MMC)
    Federal Tactical 124gr JHP (LE9T1)
    Federal Tactical 135gr JHP +P (LE9T5)
    Federal HST 147gr JHP (P9HST2)

Best Choices for Self Defense Ammo

My experience w/the Rugers is that they'll feed just about everything. YMMV.

My SR9 is the one gun I regret selling off. It shot everything without a problem. My favorite holster for it was a Shark Tac USA IWB Kydex holster.
