Only one solution: Invade Detroit! If we simply kick them out of the US, we will only have a second source of illegal aliens predisposed toward crime (regardless of whether they do it themselves or expect Obama to do it for them)(yes, I consider stealing our money to give to the useless and corrupt to be just that--stealing, and criminal).

They need to bring some kind of manufacturing back to Detroit. Tax breaks for companies that set up factories in Wayne County. Something has to be done there. But not free money, or cell phones, to those that don't want to work.

Given the outright exodus of productive citizens, do you really think there is a viable workforce to be had in Detroit? I would need access to politically incorrect statistics that I am not going to be able to get at my computer on order to develop this thought, but my guess is that the majority of those remaining are either criminals, government dependents, or both.

If I was looking for a place to set up a factory, it sure wouldn't be in liberal union friendly Michigan. Tax incentives run out and you're stuck with a populace that craves socialism.

I'm saying I would like to see some of the junk we import from China made in Detroit. Bring some $8 hr. jobs to the city. Who knows how the citizens of Detroit will react when they find help wanted signs here and there? There are many unemployes through out the U.S. If they were to open manufacturing facilities in Wayne County, with the affordable housing they now have maybe some would relocate there. It might flourish again.
Baby steps, that city used to be the heart of this country and a truely magical place.

I can understand your though, but there are some major problems that would have to be overcome. You have a lot of people there that you are not going to get to report to work under any conditions other than at gunpoint, and then will not likely be equipped to work at an acceptable standard. You are not going to get people to move back in, no matter how affordable, without resolving the fact that the place makes Mogadishu look peaceful, and you are not going to get any investment made by anyone until the plummeting property values, dangerous environment (in terms of personal safety and vandalism), and the threat of being seen as a financial target by a bankrupt city are addressed. It can be corrected, but my guess is that isn't going to happen without employing solutions that would have the likes of Rachel Maddow screaming up a lung.

Baby steps won't happen when you have had a vasectomy and even if you could have a baby, the neighbors would kill it before it reached the point of attempting to walk.

There is no solution for what is wrong in Detroit, California, etc. Any chance to avert it was 20-25 years ago. They are now complete write-offs.

    Off topic sort of.
If a city in Indiana goes bankrypt (say Gary) does not the state of indiana take over?
Or do all city services just stop (police/fire/911/etc..) and the people go on with their lives. Does the county take over?

Wait a minute. Didn't the feds just bail out Detroit, i.e. GM in 2009, to the tune of 25 billion? Now Detroit sounds like an addict crying for another fix.

I thought holding people at gun point was what Detriot resident did best. :dunno:
