Fed Regs on buying long guns in a border state

You want to buy a gun in Missouri, Kentucky, West Virginia or Maryland?

How would a Border State be any different than any other state?

EDIT: Ok, looking at this again--do you mean Border State (MO, KY, WV or MD)? Or, a state bordering Indiana?

I was at Wal-Mart in South Bend. A guy from Michigan was wanting to buy a 410 pump shotgun. This was the only place he could find it within a 100 miles. The associate was telling him it was illegal and they were waiting for a manager to show up. I tried to find a link but couldn't.

I told the guy from MI that it was legal but it might be against Walmart policy. I couldn't stick around to find out.

The associate thought because he was a MI resident he couldn't buy a long gun in Indiana.

Could be that's what the associate thought, but I don't know Wal-Mart policy.

Remember, gun dealers use the law as a fence or a coat rack in order not to do work. "It's highly illegal" is the usual refrain.

I tried to buy an HK93 at 18 in high school. Plopped my money down and was told, by the fat ass on the stool, "those things are highly illegal".

Made show of counting my money and then left for another store.

Oh, sorry, big, frickin' distracted by text messages and e-mail.

Leave me alone, I have to goof around on INGO for a while!:D

Here's the cite you are seeking, 18 USC §922(a)(3).

I am unaware of any Michigan law prohibiting that purchase, but, remember, I am not licensed in Michigan. Jim might be able to help, I think he holds an Indiana and Michigan license.

Here's the ATFE Q&A on your scenario: https://www.atf.gov/questions-and-answers/qa/may-unlicensed-person-acquire-firearm-under-gca-any-state
