    All,

Yesterday ( Sunday June 15th ) my Fiancee and myself went to JCPenny in order to pick some room items up for the new nursery. We were walking around and shopping for around 15 minutes or so; A rather large man with a slicked back pony tail caught my attention. He was acting rather suspicious and I could tell he was trailing me.

I was confused as to what he was doing, when I made eye contact with him, I saw him disappear; I was Open Carrying as I do everywhere I go. About 3 minutes later I noticed a Black male approaching me making full one eye contact. The way he and the larger guy were starting to surround and approach me with such zeal startled me; my adrenaline instantly started to pump.

The first thing out of the gentleman's mouth was " Sir, I'm from JCPenny Security, you'll have to vacate the premises with that 'gun'."

Me "Why do I need to leave with my firearm? There are no signs posted, naturally I respect no firearm signs."
    Security Guard " *cricket sounds*"

I told him I will comply with his wishes, albeit I'm not leaving my pistol in my vehcile, what's the point in having a pistol if you can't have it on yourself? My Fiancee then said " Come on, let's go, we're not going to shop here" as she started to lay all of the merchandise down we origionally planned to purchase.

As we were "escored" in the manner they treat shoplifters, we passed managment - I mentioned that they should post signs if they wish people to respectively comply - I also mentioned mentioned that their "Loss Prevention Gustapo" completely defetead their purpose by $500.

Needless to say; I won't be shopping there again - anytime soon. * At least until I find & buy a Colt New Agent *

Unfortunately...I'm sure some retailers and other types of businesses ban firearms due to the possibility of being sued if an incident took place. The public loves to sue. Retaining an attorney has almost become a past time.

    While I don't agree with their actions...you can't hardly blame them...sometimes.

If you wished, you could find out the management of the store...and on up through the food chain... And write them all a letter explaining that the considerable monies you were going to spend will now be spent elsewhere.

Then, later, send another letter with copies of the receipts.

I like the way you think - +1 to you; I'm going to do that.

We have already spent the monies elsewhere.

They should have it posted, but it is their store. They can ask you to leave for all kinds of reasons. I dont agree with it. I would write a letter, as suggested earlier, and just shop elsewhere. It is going to take a long time to get the shepple used to seeing OC. And I know we will not get all of the shepple to agree with us.

My question is, do they have the same problem with off duty cops, in uniform or plain clothes, shopping there with a gun that can be seen on their hip? Ask that question if you send a letter. No different for a cop OC than for regular people.

I'm just upset because it could have been handled differently. I would have responded better if I would have gotten better treatment. I felt like I was singled out - although I was going to be a PAYING customer.

If I were the security guard I would have said " Sir, could you please conceal your firearm the best you can - next time you shop with us it would be greatly appreciated if you leave the firearm in the vehicle.".

Personally, I think getting flanked by a pair of goons puts a whole lot of tension in the situation that really doesn't need to be there. Seriously bad tactics on their part. I could understand if company policy requires a manager (or at least a second employee of the same gender as the subject) present when someone is ejected, but they ought to have approached together instead of bracketing their prey like some suburban wolf pack.

+1 to your fiancee for being the one to decide to shop elsewhere. My wife wasn't nearly as understanding the last time I turned around and refused to let us shop at a store with "no guns" posted.

Never OC'd in Greenwood Mall. I always cover. They do have no firearms posted and while I still choose to carry I also choose to not flaunt it in their faces.

Sure it could have been handled differently. But how could it have been handled better. You were watched(survelience). You were approached and greeted with a "sir" and asked nicely to vacate the premesis. Then you were escorted to the door. Sould like they did their job just right and with respect towards you.

So what if there were 2 of them. I'm sure they have figured this out, by doing it 100 times before, that there is safety in numbers. They probably get much better compliance when approaching the people they are going to eject with more than one person.

You were singled out...you were the guy with the gun who they asked to leave. Of course you were a PAYING(your caps not mine) customer, as is most everyone else in the store...so what.

They wanted you to leave, asked nicely, and walked you out. Their property, their rules. What's the problem here?

This is a perfect example of a time where compromise is in order. Next time you go there, simply CC. They can't say a thing if they don't know you have it. I know, I know, you like to OC. I don't want to turn this into that discussion. I'm just saying that maybe you could think about CC'ing under circumstances such as this. It's better than being escorted out of places or made to feel like a leper. They don't know any different, and you get to keep your gun. Everybody goes home happy.

Sometimes we're forced to choose our battles. Sucks doesn't it.
