    From Drudge:

Dept. of Education breaks down Stockton man's door | news10.net

Summary - a SWAT team breaks through dude's door at 0600.

The U.S. Department of Education issued the search and called in the S.W.A.T for his wife's defaulted student loans.
    ...
The Office of the Inspector General has a law enforcement branch of federal agents that carry out search warrants and investigations.

    heh heh

    Just had a funny thought.

So, you're at the range, reloading or just looking around and you see the guy next to you has all sorts of tacticool stuff. You start up a conversation.

You: That's some nice kit you have!
Dude: Thanks, most of it is for work.
You: Oh, what do you do?
    Dude: I'm in law enforcement.
You: Wow, that's great. I have a brother/father/mother/sister/uncle/aunt/girlfriend/boyfriend/spouse/un-married cohabitant who is a police officer. What jurisdiction are you with?
Dude: Uh... I'm on the SWAT team.
You (a bit puzzled): Yeah, but what jurisdiction.
Dude (mumbling): Inspector General of the Depahtmehnnn of edhmmhmmhmmmnn.
You: Sorry, I didn't quite catch that...
    Dude: Uh... Department of Education.
You: So... you're a school cop?
Dude: Uh... no, we enforce student loan laws.
You: You need body armor for that?

I mean, really... how embarassing. I almost feel bad for that guy.

A search warrant? For past-due student loans? What were they looking for?

Stories like this remind me of the mob. Seriously. Who else kicks in your door, holds you and your kids at gun-point, and demands you repay your debt?

No criminal record. And yet someone will still try and argue this is acceptable in some way.

Of course, I'm sure this case was no-knock worthy. We wouldn't want her escaping through the bathroom window or flushing the evidence, would we?

I don't understand the point of the invasion. How does kicking in a door and locking kids in a car help you recoup money you lost by engaging in a bad loan? Where they just going to start taking valuables?

The feds don't want local law enforcement enforcing federal immigration laws, but it's perfectly fine when they want to engage local law enforcement to enforce, um, what are they enforcing again? Oh yeah, they're using local SWAT like a collection agency.

Hey, at least they didn't shoot him 21 times.

They were federal agents. They local guys provided a car to lock the kids in after they were led out of the house at gun point.

I'm still trying to figure out how this jibes with the "if he's done nothing wrong he has nothing to worry about" argument. He simply has to have a criminal record. There's no reason SWAT would be busting down his door if he didn't.
