"We cannot expect Americans to jump from capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism." "You Americans are so gullible. No, you won't accept communism outright. But we'll keep feeding you small doses of socialism until you finally wake up and find you already have communism. We won't have to fight you; we'll so weaken your economy until you fall like overripe fruit into our hands." -Soviet Leader Nikita Khrushchev, 1959

How many of these low-paid folks have no health insurance? I'd guess that most of them don't, so we (taxpayers) pay for their health care in the most expensive way possible - when they go to the emergency room. Or, we pay for their children's health care via Medicaid or some other program for low-income folks. Or, they have coverage through a spouse, in which case the low-wage employer is being subsidized by another business. In effect, we have been subsidizing these low-wage employers with our tax dollars for years. This subsidy also gives a cost disadvantage to employers that act responsibly and provide health insurance benefits. It's about time that we enforced some responsibility for this expense.

This is great... I'd rather companies point out legislation on their receipts rather than simply raising their prices.

I wish every bill had a breakdown of taxes on them....

Don't be surprised if this is outlawed.
    Stuff like this already has.

    Example.
Remember the so-called "Al Gore tax" that was added to our phone bills back in the 1990's.

It was made illegal for the phone companies to itemize this tax on your bill.

Instead, it was to be "blended" in with other charges so we wouldn't know what we were paying.

Don't be surprised if this type of thing starts gathering momentum in the business community that BHO will make it against the law.

This is the same BHO that made Ford Motor Company remove TV ads that merely mentioned that they survived without a bailout.

I do feel sorry for all of the people who now must look for another job or deal with the lost income.

I feel sorry for all the workers that will have to have 2 jobs and the schedule hell that creates

Why? While I don't have any data on it I wonder how many of those workers voted for BO and/or MR.

We are starting to see the consequences of what we asked for.

^This! Europe think in terms of generations while Asia in mileiums why we are so short sighted that we can only look at the here and now. :faint:

I thought there was a feature for "full time equivilents" that prevented you from cutting hours and hired more part time employees to avoid the threshold.

The get billed for it, it's not free. It's just for some reason people think they don't have to pay medical bills. I can't think of any other area where people receive a service with basically no intention of ever paying for it (well, many people that is).

In the long run the prices will go up to cover the increased cost of coverage

I wish every single business in the country quit withholding payroll taxes out of their employees paycheck.

Instead, make people send a payment into the government every week.

I think that would wake the nation up damn quick.

    :+1:

It makes me sick every week when I see what the gubment has taken from my check and I look for it to only get worse. I used to have to pay taxes at the end of the year because they were not withheld and it is definitely a wake up call when you actually have to see how much they get for the year.

I will support Denny's or any other business's decision to do this as long as it prints out on the receipt "Obamacare surcharge".

I notice the restaurants putting forth this policy serve only garbage and I would never eat there. Denny's, Applebee's, and Papa John's don't actually produce good food.

So, I guess they will get 5% of nothing from me. Sad to see business owners using this as an excuse to screw over their workers.

There are just too many people that think that way. :dunno:

So, you are telling me that instead of being forced to pay for their health care directly out of my health care premiums, without receiving any benefit from their labor in the process - I can choose if I pay for their health care by my decision to patronize their restaurant?

It is kind of sideways, but since I do not eat at Denny's - that actually sounds like a more representative way to "force" me to pay for their health care - by giving me the choice.

The end result seems FURTHER from socialism than our existing system.

The irony.... A system where everyone has to pick up the health costs of the uninsured, subsidizing their wages and the profits of a company - flipped around where they pay their own way through the service/good they produce.

People look at this and believe the entire cost is added - but it is not. The employees that they did not provide health care for still go to the doctor if they have a major medical issue, and we still pay for it - the business just does not have to support that directly. Now that they are required to provide that - and their labor is not subsidized by the rest of us - everyone is crying foul.

Also, the cost of health care is now tied to their company's profitability, and their chance for higher wages - instead of the tax payer being left to foot the bill. No more "ER and ditch" - employees now have a dog in the race when it comes to ensuring that their health coverage remains as cheap as possible.

I do sympathize somewhat though - because I know at low end restaurants like Denny's, it does not always make the meal cost more - it will decrease the size of the tip. Denny's will pass the cost on to customers - and many customers will simply pass the cost on to their service provider. Denny's employees will now pay for their own health care.

Ok, I can't tolerate this crap anymore. The Denny's franchise guy said the healthcare expense increase is more than many of his stores make in profit for the whole year! Do you get that? The business exists to earn money for the owner. No one is going to take personal risk and liability to lose money every year. Obama has forced these people to fire or cut back their workers, no one else.

I think I need to start my ignore list with you. I don't want to get banned.

As a small business owner we deal with these things all the time. My business relies upon onsite service. So when gas prices go through the roof, so do our costs. I put between 3-5K miles on my car each month and some my employees do as well. I reimburse for miles for them. When gas was $4.50/gallon that really sucked, but we did a business analysis and figured we could tough it out. If it went higher, we would have had to raise rates. I get that.

If they aren't making that much money per location they need to up their game. I haven't been in a Denny's in a decade or more, but all of these restaurants pander to the $$$ conscious customers. They built their businesses on providing low-cost low-quality food to people who didn't want to spend a lot on food. Live by the sword, die by the sword. They can probably raise each food item by $1 and be fine.

Instead of just raising the food by $1, they are on national news crying about "The Man" is screwing them and they are forced to take it out on their employees. Instead of simply making it work, they are screwing the people who work for them.

I would expect nothing but this response from you. How far down the drain do we have to go before you lose your blind loyalty to O?
