In a related matter, a bill is being introduced tomorrow in the senate to legalise medical marijuana and reschedule it. Rand Paul is one of the sponsors, along with Kirsten Gillibrand and Corey Booker. A bipartisan effort. It will be interesting to see if the drug warriors will try to kill it, or if they'll come to their senses and pass it.

Of all the extra-constitutional laws that Congress has enacted and it's this that they choose exert effort on? I guess it really is all about bread and circuses for the masses.

(or maybe bags of Funyons or Taco Bell).

It's a multi-billion dollar industry that needs to be brought in from the cold, for the sake of the business owners and the patients. It would also serve to keep plenty of people out of the prison industry complex. This bill serves a lot of purposes, all legitimate and important. Killing even a segment of the drug war will save millions of tax payer dollars and many lives and help to remove the criminals from the issue.

I've read all the points and counterpoints. There are plenty of other issues -- particularly the ones that everyone on this forum would probably take interest in -- that have merits of their own for addressing and likely repeal. But let's face it. This is probably more about 2016 presidential politics than a constitutional awakening. I'm all for rolling back the federal behemoth where ever possible, so in that regard, it's a good thing. But let's not kid ourselves.

No kidding going on. If it's about presidential politics on Paul's part he picked an issue that sure to lose him votes from a lot of republicans of a certain age. Doesn't seem like a prudent move, unless he's going to rely solely on the youth vote and the ill. It's not really a winner with the rank file.

He may well wind up on your party's ticket.

The DEA will just turn to the money interests behind marijuana. If they can't raid a MM dispensary because of the marijuana, they'll investigate its finances and bust it on a trumped up money laundering beef.

Well, if they reschedule it and it goes into the "useful" category the DEA won't really have a leg to stand on in any court in the land.

Nope. Not going to happen. He would stand zero chance of getting the nod at the National Convention. He's gone too far out of his way to distance himself from big L libertarians. Even though he is pretty good on many issues, on which we share agreement, he's a dyed in the wool republican when it comes to certain core issues. While libertarians find him less distasteful than many republicans, they do not see him as a libertarian. He'd never get the votes to be the party's candidate.

Breaking news: Congress quietly voted to de-fund themselves for the next four year, and Da Prez signed it into law. All involved also admitted that they did not know what was in the bill until it was passed and signed. Yeeaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

    Are they wrong?

Very well thought out and vague enough to be unprovable but arguable in order to further an issue and agenda.

Supported by at least half of available research by many (if not half) peer reviewed if slightly slanted research centers and funded by groups of no particularly declared political party or affiliation.

Advocated by the minority of well educated and thoughtful supporters of the vast majority of users who have dire and life changing medical needs that cannot be controlled by the entire field of pain management specialists with any other substance including THC capsules and approved pain medication.

Repeated in in a very deliberate and practiced way.

    I applaud your advocacy

    if not you issue
