I have the opportunity to buy two colt pythons. They both have the boxes and are older ones. One is a 4" nickel 1968. The other one is 6" blued and i think is like a 1972. Both are in excellent shape. Does anyone have an idea what they are worth?

I forgot to say that the blued 6" has the colt emblem double-stamped. Would this make it worth more?

Honestly that would Caused me to become concerned. At the time that gun was made all pythons were turned and finished by hand So it would be almost unheard of for one to leave the factory with that type of a factory error.

As to adding to the value that is very hard To determine. It might for some but I think it would remove value for others.

I was told by a salesman at ZxGuns that Colt is going to re-introduce the Python again. Anyone else heard this rumor? If they do, would this kill the value of the older ones or would there be a strong enough collector market to keep the prices stable? I want a Python but now I might hold off for a while to see if there is any truth to what I was told.

That rumor comes up every once in a while. I don't think we will ever see a new python roll out of the Colt factory. They sold off all of their revolver machinery and the start up cost would be massive. Then there is the ROI. Yes they could sell a few a $2K but think about it how many in today's economy could drop $2K on a revolver??

If that did happen, I think it would kill the value to a certain degree.
A good example of this is how "clone" firearms hurt the value of the "real deal", such as Century putting out a clone of the famous HK93. I suspect it did hurt the value of real 93's, as a lot of guys would think, "I can have this Century for $500 (yes that's how much they were, when they were released)
or I can have a "real" one for $2000. Yes it hurts the market.

Yeah i can see how it could hurt the value if they reintroduced them but i would think that the older ones would be preferred by a lot of people. It would be kinda cool if they did start making them again though.
