Does anyone have any idea how much an older Colt 38 detectives special might be worth? I have an opportunity to pick one up from a friend for about $250. I have only seen a small picture of it so I cannot say how nice or bad it is. Any speculation from anyone familiar with Colts is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Alan

If it's in even reasonably good condition, that's a smoking deal.

Summit Gun Broker recently had a batch of police trade-in Detective Specials that sold anywhere from $300 to $350.

I sold one a couple of years ago that was made in the mid 70s and was in very good shape for $350.

If the gun is in decent condition that's a great price.

Buy it! I still carry my 2nd Gen model, but am going to retire it to the safe soon after all these years. Maybe start packing a LCR.

If you don't buy it from your buddy, I'll buy it!

While we wait for the happy "I bought it" update how about a little Detective Special porn. I have been carrying this 1st generation for over 30 years. It recently got new rosewood grips to go with the factory shroud I had installed years ago to make it more pocket friendly.

I ended up paying a little more then I wanted. $310. Got it in a package deal with a Ruger Blackhawk .357. $620 for both. Will get pics up as soon as go figure out how to post pics.
