Canceled! Chicago loses G-8 Summit, event moves to Camp David - Chicago News Report | Chicago News Blogs | Chicago Crime | News Blotter

Saw this in the newspaper this morning and I'm shocked. Obama made the decision to move it to Camp David instead. The paper reported that Obama said he did not want chicago to be a distraction to the event. :dunno:

Yet the RedEye (Chicago local paper) reported that concerns of riots/demonstrations was probably the main reason and the in an election year Obama did not want to be embarrased in his home town by it.

Whatever the real reason I for one am shocked that he moved it.

I agree with one of the comments.

That kind of rioting would never happen here in Chicago. The CPD would be shooting into the crowd in the first 10 minutes.

I find that to be very plausible. Not shocked he moved it Obama moved it he does everything he can to not look bad.

Don't you think he is worried about OWS and the CPD meeting?

Isn't there something in Chicago's history that would worry Obama?:D

Yes... Yes.. Kirk we will never live that down.
Granted protestors are still coming to Chicago as the NATO summit (the same week) will still be here. So riots/violence can still happen. :xmad:

G8 summit canceled in Chicago, NATO still coming to town
The G8 meeting will take place at Camp David May 18-19. The NATO summit will be in Chicago May 20-21.

Protesters: We're Still Coming To Chicago For NATO
"It's a major victory for those of us who are planning these protests," said Joe Iosbaker, head of the United National Antiwar Committee in Chicago. "The administration is taking G-8 someplace where they won't have to face the people who suffer under their policies."

Is there something about rural Maryland that will block out cameras and protesters? It's been a while but I've driven through Maryland right past Camp David; and I think the towns just off of 15 are ill equipped compared to the CPD to handle a massive influx of protesters; and if the cell phones work there can still be video tweets.

I don't think Rahm Emanuel has the balls that the late Mayor Daley had. Little Richie certainly didn't.

Saves me several hours on the train to escort the GF to and from work... Guess I'll have time to go shooting on my requested days off now...

Wonder if I can return the Bear Repellant? Gonna keep the new knife...
