This ammo is fairly cheap anyways, so I just go with the more expensive of the caliber. I had a bad case rupture once with milsurp stuff.

Eh, ya pays your nickel, and ya takes your chances... ;) I've never had any problem with any (yet - knock wood). That same site did have some non-corrosive stuff for $199.99 / 500 rounds. That's not bad either.

out of curiousity... how accurate is the 7.62X54R out of quality rifle like VPER? or a nice bolt action? How does it compare with the 308?

I haven't, but they have several good reviews on their site... take that for what you will. Kinda hard to screw up sealed cans of ammo at least. The other (commercial) ammo seemed to be brands I've seen, so I'd say you're safe there as well.

I've never shot a .308, but the milsurp ammo is not going to be match grade (unless you're able to find the illusive 7N1 ammo), but it's decent out of a Mosin.

I haven't bought anything from them or used 1940's Russian ammo. I have some '55 Bulgarian that's very good stuff...

Considering we are starting to see these tins go for $100 (or $139 at Bradis), I'd say this is a pretty good deal. Even with the $18 shipping, that's still basically $69.50 per tin, $20 cheaper delivered than I've seen anywhere else lately).

Also for about $15 more, you can get 880 rounds of Russian 7.62x54R from the 70's and 80's:

I actually convinced myself. I just ordered 1760 rounds of the 70's surplus. Came out to $77.25 or so a piece after shipping. Now I might kick myself when I see the prices at the 1500, but I don't really remember seeing them less than about $89 a piece.

Pretty good. Ammoman has 7,62x54r for $199/ 880, but that's the DELIVERED price. Whether that's a good deal for you or not may depend on how much you'd have to pay for shipping from the other guys.

You may find it for $85ish a can but that will be plus tax and you have to carry it all the way to your car. Sgammo.com has it for that or less shipped to your door. As somebody that has carried lots of ammo all the way to his car a couple times at the 1500, I'd say go for the online route. Just my $.02.

That website the-armory.com has been, and still is, the cheapest source for surplus 7.62x54R that I've ever found, and I've had good service from them. I'm not sure that I'll go for that 40's & 50's surplus stuff; I like the idea of buying the sealed 70s-80s vintage figuring that they'll stay good for another 50 years in case I need it, but seeing that 40's-50s stuff for sale and apparently still going, does give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. :)
