cheap m1 garand

I plan on selling some guns at the 1500 and need to know If there's such a thing. I really want one and don't really care what condition it's in as long it's in working condition with a decent bore. I plan on having around $650 total.

Frequently Asked Questions

Send in your birth certificate, driver's license, LTCH, and join the Garand Collector's Association (unless you are already affiliated with any sportsman's club). If you do not have a LTCH, you have to prove that you have been a part of some type of shooting deal ex. (certificate for shooting class or course).

It's easier than most think, just fax copies in to the CMP and call after to make sure you are good and you're in.

No I am not.

Attend and Appleseed and meet all the qualifications for getting a CMP rifle. Also learn how to shoot rifle REALLY well and learn some history.

The GCA is a good org. It's worth it just for the magazine alone. CMP is definitely your best bet for an M1. Anything else will be over price most likely.

After shopping around for an M1 Ive learned a couple things:

1) When I was bit by the M1 bug in 1995, I should have bought one then when you could get them for $250 pretty easily.

2) Nothing Ive come across can beat the CMP price!

Ain't that the truth, Clay. Except the correct grade 5.9 SA I got at a gunshow for about $750. That was a good deal.

I received an M1 barreled receiver from CMP on Tuesday which cost $100. I was lucky with it, original finish 3mil receiver, SA 1952 barrel that is nearly new, except for some slight pitting in the barrel. It must have slipped through the cracks. I've got a source for a parts kit for $250 and the wood for $40 so I'll have a $390 M1. Can't beat that!

The the second to the last 1500 i was at, I saw a few Garands at prices in the 700-800 range. But the rest were up in the 900's- to the 1000's..... >_<

Which sucks seeing I want to get a Garand as well.

$16 gets enough .22 for an Appleseed. If you want to go to one, I'll let you borrow my rifle and give you the ammo.

If your going to get one from the CMP it will be better to go to the store to buy one, that way you can inspect each one and try to find the best one for your money. I just picked up a field grade HRA from the north store for 495 that was in better condition than most of the service grades they had. Make sure you buy the ammo from the CMP to, I cant find anywhere else that has surplus 30-06 for the price the CMP has it for.
