carry rules for long guns

I found a ton of information regarding the laws in Indiana for handguns but I'm seeing nothing pertaining to shotguns and rifles. What are the rules when handling and transporting them? I understand there is no permit needed but surely there are some restrictions I'm not seeing. Please help.

The only 4 rules I know of:
Don't put your finger on the trigger until you're ready to fire.
Know what you're aiming at, and what's behind it.
Don't pull the trigger until you're ready to destroy whatever you're pointing at.
Every gun is always loaded.

Oh, and firing it is probably an ordinance violation in any city you're in. I guess that's 5.

(Caveat: a shotgun with a pistol grip and no other stock may be treated as a handgun.)

You can carry them around with you anywhere firearms are not restricted by law, just don't point them at people.

Don't point them at certain other animals out of season, either. There are a few hunting regs that could come into play.

As above. They are forbidden all of the places any other firearm is forbidden. They cannot be carried (or possessed, for that matter) by anyone who also cannot possess any other firearm.

I think the purchasing laws differ as well. I haven't needed to look those up recently.

But, as for handling/transporting for non-felon adults: not many laws to worry with.

Very special attention needs to be paid to this. Don't let the behavior at some gun shops, ranges and the Indy 1500 be your guide.

You don't see any laws pertaining to shotguns and rifles because.....generally and as indicated above.......there ain't none. Indiana law is pretty silent on them. And, laws only tell you what you CAN'T do, not what you are allowed to do.
