Free drinks and t-shirts. The rally is against Cap and Trade (aka Cap & Tax). Come stand up for your freedom before it is taxed out of existence. Get out there and let your voices be heard and our numbers be known. We don't want these high taxes. We are freedom loving Americans who want a secure future for our children.

This is no joke. Cap & Trade could be the most dangerous legislation in the history of this country. It is predicted to kill 1.5 Million jobs just by the nature of it own existence, raise the average home's energy costs by $1500 per year, raise the price of gasoline and every other form of energy, raise the price of anything that is transported anywhere, etc.

Its an absolute job-killer, sending jobs overseas by the hundred-thousand. Your basic costs of living will go way up. Obama himself said electricity costs would necessarily skyrocket. Your groceries will be more expensive. Your job, if it can sustain the higher costs of operation and not be outsourced, will be shrunk and in a weaker position to keep you. Everything will be more expensive and there will be less people with jobs out there to work.

This is the Nail in the Coffin bill for America's chances of survival. There is a reason it is nicknamed "Tax & Kill."

This legislation is much worse than that. It introduces new retroactive HOUSEHOLD energy efficiency standards to be made by the EPA. Each home is to be INSPECTED by the EPA for compliance. Compliance is mandatory. if your home is found deficient of the standards the Federal Government will LOAN you the money to bring it up to the new standards. You CANNOT BUY or SELL a home without meeting this standards and having a stamp issued by the EPA that certifies compliance.

HR 2454, Title II - Energy Efficiency, Section 202 Building Retrofit Program,

SEC. 204. BUILDING ENERGY PERFORMANCE LABELING PROGRAM
creates a database to track the efficiency of every home, monitoring of your utility (water, gas and electricity) usage through the new smart grid created in Subtitle E of Title I of the same act (HR2454).

With This Legislation the Federal Government Seizes Control of YOUR Homes, removes any privacy that you thought you may have (provisions for inspection at any time). Evan Bayh's office says he plans on a yes vote. Lugar is undecided at the moment.

Thanks for pointing that out. Its hard to enumerate all the reasons this horrible bill will hurt the country.

In short, it puts all the economy-stifling restrictions that California enjoys on the entire country.

Hope you all can make it.

I should point out that IT IS HALFWAY PASSED. ALL IT NEEDS IS TO PASS IN THE SENATE. Call your Senators now.

    Energy Citizens Rally in Elkhart

At least 150 people came to the Energy Citizens Rally on Tuesday, August 25, 2009. It was put together by Energy Citizens. Their mission, from their website:
Energy Citizens is a nationwide alliance of organizations and individuals formed to bring together people across America to remind Congress that energy is the backbone of our nation’s economy and our way of life.
Energy Citizens are voicing their concerns about the impact climate legislation passed by the U.S. House of Representatives would have on American jobs, families and businesses. The alliance is urging the Senate to get it right and make sure that climate, energy and tax legislation would not take money out of Americans’ pocketbooks and cost millions of jobs.
Their message is to urge elected representatives to support policies that promote affordable energy and protect jobs.
They are supported by national and local organizations, including the Indiana Farm Bureau, the Indiana Cast Metal Association, the National Taxpayers Union, Freedomworks and many more. You can sign up for email and mobile updates at their site.
The Energy Citizens Rally bus pulled into the parking lot of the RV Hall of Fame Museum in Elkhart at 11 a.m. Eastern.
The rally was held inside the beautiful new building.
Inside were tables full of T-shirts, pens hooked to badge-holders with postcards you could sign and drop into boxes to be sent to Senators Bayh and Lugar, pre-printed signs that said “Congress Is Out of Touch With America,” and bumper stickers. There were three big poster sheets for people to sign.
In a large adjoining room chairs were set up in front of a stage with a podium and a large TV screen. The event was streamed live on the internet.
Food, bottled water and cans of soda were available, and there were several tables set up in the back of the room for people to stand next to and eat. There was an area set up in the middle for media.
The Marlins, a four-man band, provided live music before the speakers came on. They sang I Believe In America, Blue Moon, Marianne, and The Lion Sleeps Tonight, among others. They did a musical tribute to the branches of the Armed Services, which drew a lot of applause.
Outside, in front of the bus there was a table with petitions and plastic glasses for handouts.
Before the live speakers began, there was a short recorded presentation on the big screen explaining that Energy Citizens is a group of citizens, businesses and representatives of business groups voicing concerns about the results of climate change legislation on the economy and the activities of everyday life.
The MC was Kyle Hannon of the Elkhart Chamber of Commerce. He spoke briefly about his concern that the legislation would hurt Elkhart’s manufacturing economy because it is very much affected by the cost of energy and transportation. He introduced the speakers, all local people.
He was followed by a short music video featuring Trace Adkins.
Rob Reed, owner of Great Lakes RV Center in Elkhart, spoke of his fears that passage of the bill will affect small businesses more and will stop the momentum that has recently been regained in the local RV economy. He outlined the effects increased costs of fuel would have by depressing his sales, not just on his business but on others connected with it, such as RV manufacturers, and on local and state government by decreasing tax collections.
Kelly Havens, member of the local St. Joseph County group Citizens For Common Sense, talked about how it’s estimated the bill would cost two million jobs over time and drive jobs overseas. She talked about using clean coal and nuclear energy.
Jim Gartland, President and owner of Atlas Foundry, spoke about how the foundry industry has decreased in this country, due in part to increased energy costs. He got cheers from the audience when he said “We need common sense in Washington.”
Isabel Chism, farmer and member of the Indiana Farm Bureau, spoke about how increased energy costs are a threat to the farm economy, about the lack of reliable alternative sources of energy, and how the bill would put US farmers at a disadvantage in the world economy.
The rally ended with the MC urging people to contact friends, neighbors, newspapers and politicians to get the word out.
    Some people brought signs.
Hearing local business people and others speak their thoughts gave the rally a hometown feeling, pointing up the fact that real people will be greatly affected by the results of this legislation in a lot of ways. It was an educational and enjoyable get-together, and I hope there will be more in our area.
