    Found one! Thanks!

I'm looking for something old or newish. FR-8 , Mauser, Enfield or whatever. I don't mind a truck gun that has it's work clothes on. Trying to stay away from anything like a 770 or an AXIS. Please send a PM. Thanks

Remington offers a bull barrel 700 in a camo synthetic stock and a cheapo scope as a combo. The Dicks ad in todays paper says they are on sale for about $450. It is a decent rifle with an ok trigger, even if it is a cheap plastic hunting stock. I figure $450 for new beats $400 for some old, patched up military sporter unless it is REALLY pretty.

I'm looking for a bday present for my Dad and he has wanted a 308 for some time. I don't normally spend $400 on a present. He used to have a 30-06 Eddystone and he sold it off needing cash years ago. He doesn't bring it up too often, but I thought it would be kinda cool to get something older in 308. $400 is really my breaking point and I'd prefer to stay under that. He isn't going to be shooting for groups or game really. If he could come out to my place, hit steel at 100 yards and feel the recoil he would be a happy camper.

My first post says I'm trying to stay away from them (Axis). If I was in a big crunch for time I would settle on one. I'm not knocking them or anyone who has one. I don't like the feel or look of an Axis personally. My Dad is going to be happy regardless though. I think I'm going to be checking out an FR-8 pretty soon from another member.

I am sorry for that. I don't blame you for staying away from them. I read your OP a while ago and thought I remembered everything it said.

If the axis is out what about a stevens? VERY modable into a top notch rifle if desired
